A Myaree salesman said he had to ask his daughter what to do next after he discovered he had won Saturday Lotto’s $1.3 million division one prize on Wednesday.
The man said while it had taken him around “ten seconds” to realise he had the six winning numbers needed to take out the division one prize pool, it had taken him a bit longer to find out what his next step was.
What happens when you win lotto?
It’s a dream for many but only a handful of lucky people will get to experience the process of what happens if you come across those winning numbers.
“I’ve been playing the same numbers for years so I recognised them straight away,” he said.
“Before I knew it I was on my feet yelling ‘you little beauty’ at the top of my lungs.”
After a short celebration, the man quickly rang his daughter for advice– who told him he needed to Google what to do next.
So that’s just what he did.
“I typed in ‘I’ve won the Lotto – now what?’ and spent the night glued to my computer screen.”
The lucky winner bought his ticket at the Myaree Newsextra Newsagency, a local store known for five division one wins over five years.
Newsagency owner Wayne Martinovich said he hoped the store would continue its lucky streak.
“Producing Myaree millionaires is a feeling that doesn’t grow old,” he said.
“Let’s hope lady luck is here to stay,” he added.
Lotterywest spokesperson Chloe Lawler said the massive prize pool is a result of no one across the nation being able to match the seven winning numbers needed to take out OZ Lotto for five whole weeks.
“Next Tuesday will see the equal highest jackpot for OZ Lotto this year,” she said.
“The jackpot roll will also generate a massive $5 million for the WA community,” she added.
The next major Lotto draw is set to happen on Tuesday evening, with a $40 million OZ Lotto jackpot up for grabs.
